About the Youth Scholarship Fund
The CBS Youth Scholarship Fund in its current form began as a labor of love spearheaded by Richard and Marlene Siegel and several other dedicated members of Congregation Beth Shalom.
At that time, it became evident that our shul needed a scholarship fund that would enable our youth to attend various Jewish programs. The cost of these programs was prohibitive for their families, and as such, we wanted to give these kids opportunities that they might otherwise never have.
Although there are strict guidelines, the Fund has enabled many kids throughout these last years to attend programs that are sanctioned by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, as well as the March of the Living experience. These programs include Camp Ramah, USY and Kadima conventions, USY on Wheels and USY Pilgrimage. The Fund has since been able to underwrite transportation costs for all USY and Kadima trips, regardless of financial need, with the exception of International Convention.
Speak to any of our children who have attended a sanctioned program, and you will see a spark in their eyes when relating their experiences. It is amazing how they are positively affected by the camaraderie, the spirituality, the very “Jewishness” of the various programs.
It is critical that the CBS Youth Scholarship Fund continue its important mission. We exist on donations, and we have only one fundraiser a year. Our main donor is the June Baumgartner Gelbart Foundation, whose generosity has enabled us to continue our very meaningful mission. We accept donations at any time and truly appreciate the continued support of our congregants.
